Musically Minded...

This section is about my music, why I like it, and what I reccomend. If you disagree, tough, I didn't want to know what you think anyway.

Nummer eins: Industrial musik

If you ask me, I'd say Industrial is the most important type of music in the history of man. Oh sure, scoff, say it's hyperbole, but I think it's true. You see, Industrial is where a lot of musical styles meet, and the people who are into industrial are the most tolerant people when it comes to music, at least if the music is meritous.

Industrial is really undefinable, at least it is today, where many of the old definitions are made obsolete by the analog bands or the metal bands or techno bands who either are industrial or destroy an old definition by their existence. Without being too obscure, industrial bands are generally noisy. Be it metal or dance, ot smashing glass or even hitting steel bars with hammers. The biggest names in industrial are nine inch nails, Ministry, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, Rammstein, and Marilyn manson. yup, I said 'Evil goth mass murderer' Marilyn Manson! But he's goth, but he's glam, but he's metal! I don't care what you say, I say his attitude, music, and sense of humour all mark him as being industrial. With the exception of FLA and KMFDM, they're all pretty big and heavy in the guitar side of things, but hey, that's the rock/industrial crossover for you. I know that I ramble on a lot here, but I hope to have an industrial page soon. In the meantime, here's a list of cool industrial bands:

  • nine inch nails
  • Ministry
  • Pop Will Eat Itself
  • Rammstein
  • Marilyn Manson
  • KMFDM/MDFMK/Excessive force(more or less the same band!)
  • Revolting Cocks
  • PiG
  • Covenant
  • Front Line Assembly
  • Cubanate
  • Einsturzende Neubauten
  • Delay

Numero deux:Dance musique

Yup, I like Dance music, and a fair spectrum of it too: trip-hop, big beat, hard techno, breakbeat, gabba, drum 'n' bass. My interest in dance came about from my liking for industrial. Before, all I heard was crappy euro-pop techno shit, which is derided by many dance fans. My induction to dance was pretty gradual, and left me quite eliteist about what I listen to. Generally, what I like, I listen to, like with anything else, but I wont just listen to any old dance music. Ultimately, this leads to people only knowing one or two dance acts I like. and, without further ado, the list of some dance bands I like:

  • Aphex Twin
  • Bently Rhythm Ace
  • FatBoy Slim
  • Atari Teenage Riot
  • EC8OR
  • Basement Jaxx
  • Moby

Uimhr a tri: Ceol Rock/Metal

Yeah, rock music, you wanna make something of it? what can I say, I've always liked the ol' rock 'n' roll, and as my tastes progressed towards harder music, I drifted through punk/grunge and metal. Shame they mostly suck now. Still, I can look back on the old days(and listen to my CDs) and smile. And, so you know, Grunge died after Stone Temple pilots, Korn killed metal, and no 80's band ever released a really good rocking song(with the exception of Kiss, Queen, Thin Lizzy and 'Get the funk out' by Extreme), off the top of my head anyway.

Why do I like Rock? Because of the intensity. A bunch of guys, getting up on a stage and murdering their instruments and the stage, screaming out lyrics and trying to be different, just because they wanna, and have some fun, and maybe get a message across or tell a story? What's not to love, is the real question. Here's a list:

  • Queen
  • Nirvana(Kurt and co., not that damn 60's group)
  • Fear Factory
  • Strapping Young Lad
  • Pearl Jam
  • Thin Lizzy
  • Sepultura(pre Max Leaving)
  • Stone Temple Pilots
  • Mother Love Bone
  • Soundgarden
  • The Offspring
